How IELTS calculates your overall band
Your overall IELTS band is the mean of your four skill scores, rounded to the nearest 0.5.
Example: Listening 7.5 + Reading 6.5 + Writing 6.0 + Speaking 6.5 = 26.5 ÷ 4 = 6.5 overall
Note: 6.625 rounds to 6.5 (not 7.0), because IELTS rounds to the nearest 0.5, not the nearest whole number.

How is the IELTS overall band score calculated?
Your overall band score is the average of your four skill scores (Listening, Reading, Writing, Speaking), rounded to the nearest 0.5. For example: 7.0 + 6.5 + 6.0 + 6.5 = 26 ÷ 4 = 6.5 overall.
How do I convert my Listening raw score to a band?
In IELTS Listening, you answer 40 questions and each correct answer scores one mark. The raw score is then converted using an official conversion table. For example, 30 correct answers typically gives Band 7.0.
Is IELTS Academic and General Training scored the same way?
Listening and Speaking are identical. Writing and Reading differ: General Training Reading has a different raw-to-band conversion table, and General Training Writing Task 1 is a letter rather than a data description.
Can I retake individual sections of IELTS?
Yes — IELTS One Skill Retake allows you to retake one section within 60 days of your original test, at most testing centres. This is useful if one skill score is significantly dragging down your overall band.
